1700 - 1750

The two Oare Gunpowder works (the upper and lower), situated on the Oare Stream, which fed into Oare Creek, were known to be in operation by 1700.

By 1701 Francis Grueber was operating on the Oare site, supplying gunpowder to the Ordnance Office, and he continued to do so until he died in April 1730 at the age of 72. He was succeeded by his son, Francis Grueber, junior, who operated the Oare works until 1743.
