In 2003 Heritage Lottery Fund awarded a significant sum to develop Oare Gunpowder Works, as a site for the public to appreciate the unique blend of history and wildlife.

Extensive research, planning and renovation work took place in 2004 to revitalise the site and enable visitors to enjoy the history and wildlife of Oare Gunpowder Works.
