Corning House

The black and white photo shows work in the Corning House in the 1920s.
Slabs of gunpowder arrived at the Corning House from the Press house to be reduced to grains or 'corns'. As with the Incorporation Mills, there was a big protective 'blast' wall, which you can still see today. The Corning House was built in 1845 and works here were originally powered by a waterwheel.
