January

The woodland is still carpeted with fallen leaves, which can be used to help to identify the nearby trees. Grass is growing slowly and in the open glades hardy native plant seedlings are taking a chance and germinating when the weather is mild. Feeding flocks of small birds move around the wood, seeking seeds and over-wintering invertebrates. These flocks may include blue, great and long-tailed tits, goldcrests, nuthatch and treecreeper. Watch out for inquisitive robins watching as you walk through the woodland, hoping you will disturb something to eat!
