March

Spring begins officially on 20 March when the day light hours equal the night-time hours. Watch for the simple white flowers of wood anemones. Many woodland flowers burst into flower before the leaves appear on the trees overhead. Once this canopy closes, little light reaches the ground and growth slows. Bird song at dawn and dusk reminds us that birds are beginning to seek partners and places to build nests.
